Learn about a dynamic, vital part of American history—the Underground Railroad. The “Railroad” had no trains but, rather, was a 19th-century secret network of people and places used to help enslaved people escape to freedom in the North.
Celebrate this legacy of courage while hiking Montgomery County’s Underground Railroad Experience Trail on Saturday, September 12. A guided, round-trip hike will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—starting and ending at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park. Attendees will enjoy a beautiful natural setting while learning techniques used by “freedom seekers” to navigate their way North, avoid detection and capture, and find food and shelter.
Online advance registration required. All trail users are encouraged to follow safety guidelines on social distancing and facial coverings. Learn more at https://www.montgomeryparks.org/events/ugrr-trail-saturday-guided-hike-5/.
